Construction Commentary

Sunday January 27 2008 -

We're open, and the first week is under our belt.   Obviously there are a few kinks to work out, but the food and atmosphere of this restaurant are not one of them!   We have had nothing but rave reviews about the building, the people, the food, and the fun.  Come join us, and see what the Old Man is all about.  Be prepared to leave happy, with a great desire to stay longer, and come back soon.

Monday January 14 2008 -

The soft opening date nears.   It has been set for January 22, 2008.  We've hosted several holiday parties, and everyone enjoys the atmosphere of the Old Man!  Now it's time to finish the details and let the general public in on the fun.

I've compiled a few more pictures to bring you up to date.   More things have happened since these were taken, but here is where we were on January 1, 2008

Wednesday December 12 2007 -

The details are getting done bit by bit.  The larger work progresses outside as well.   Windows are coming in, the outside deck is coming along well.   Kudo's to the hard workers out in this weather.

Inside, the bar top is getting fastened on, the bathrooms are pretty well finished.  Lots of work to go in the brewery yet, but work continues there as well.   I did take some pictures to show the changes.   More to come.

Friday December 07 2007 -

We did a quick walk through the "Old Man" today.   The devil is in the details, and we definitely are hitting that part on many aspects of the project.   Lights are going up in the main dining area and over the bar.  The bar top is in the building and awaiting final installation.  Final hookups are happening in the kitchen, then we start the cleaning to get it operational.  The brewery is coming along slowly.   Lots to hookup, clean, and test out, but it all has to be done correctly and carefully.   I'm sure our brewmaster is anxious to be brewing, but we want the equipment in tip top shape first, so he has lots on his plate to make that happen.  We're all anxious for him to get it done!

I did snap pictures as I walked through, so here is my journey through the "Old Man" as it is today.

Friday November 30 2007 -

Progress outside and in is happening in a hurry. The steel has arrived, and the outside deck is going up. I'll bet these guys really wish it could have been here when it was warmer. The windows are going in as well, so that will definitely help on the ability of the sidewalk supervisors to truly supervise. Lots of finishing up work to be done yet. Stacy took a bunch of great pictures to keep you up to date.

Wednesday November 28 2007 -

Things continue apace.  The exciting news is that they took the first steps to installing windows today.  The brew pub is awaiting a good cleaning and hookup before it's final tests.  The kitchen should be operational by this weekend.  The walls are painted.  Final electrical work is occuring.  Meanwhile, outside, the decking is starting to come up.   Just a few pictures to bring you up to date.

Tuesday November 20 2007 -

Just a few pictures to update you on progress since the last batch. The flooring in the bar/dining area is close to being finished. The walls of the bar are put up, bathroom fixtures are going on, and lines are being painted on the parking lot.

Meanwhile, brew equipment is still being installed. This week will be a bit slower as far as progress is concerned. Seems as though there is a holiday somewhere in there, and people seem to also want to get out and look for Bambi's mother (hopefully she'll quit eating my trees then!)

Things will continue rapid pace next week. Here's your pictoral update.

Wednesday November 14 2007 -

The brew equipment has arrived.  It's being carefully inspected, all parts catalogued, and the setup is beginning.   In the mean time, work continues on the outside ramp area with preparation for the ramp entrance to the restaurant.   The steel is slow in coming so further construction there will be delayed.

The first large window has been installed, which give you a great view of the brew vats as they are installed.  The main doorway was blocked off today as they begin work on the tile for the entrance.  The wood flooring continues inside, but I wasn't able to get a picture of that progress.  Here's the link to the pictures.

Saturday November 10 2007 -

We went down and did a walk through today just to see the end results of the weeks progress.  It's exciting to see the items for the kitchen getting ready to be installed.   If my memory is correct, brewing equipment should start to arrive next week.  The main floor of the dining area goes in next week.  The bar is being stained and finished and will go in after the floor is down.   The restrooms were tiled, and the floors of the kitchen and brew area were applied.  Windows should go in sometime right after Thanksgiving if not before for some of them.   Some of these things are left up to outside circumstances.   Here's your pictoral update.

Friday November 02 2007 -

Time for another update in pictures. It's getting more and more difficult to show all the changes. Wall board is up in most areas, the mudding is happening, kitchen appliances are being installed, items are arriving for the bar, the kitchen, the brewery. Lots of activity, but until things get a little more complete over the next two weeks, it will be harder to see all that is happening. We're all hoping for windows to go in within two weeks, and that will be a big change. For now.. here are your pictures of the progress.

Wednesday October 24 2007 -

Just another quick update to link you to some pictures. The wall board is going up inside. The last of the old windows are coming out. New equipment is being installed. Lots and lots to do yet, but things are coming along just fine. Here are the pictures from 10/22 and 10/24.

Saturday October 20 2007 -

A few more pictures to share. Obviously more things happening inside now as the outside nears completion. There are a few details that need to be finished up outside, and, of course, the new windows are still on the schedule for the first part of November. Click here for your update.

Tuesday October 16 2007 -

Too long between updates, so I'll skip the words and go right to the pictures from 10-12 and 10-16

Friday October 12 2007 -

It was one of those On, In & Out days.   Siding went on, Bricks went in, Old windows came out.

Now we're waiting for the sheet rock on new windows in days to come!  Pictures show the new looks best.

Thursday October 11 2007 -

Okay... so I'm way behind.   Things have been moving fast and furious, and nowhere is it more true than in construction to say - "The devil is in the details".   Lots of things happening both inside and outside the building.  Insulation is going up, wiring and plumbing is being finished.  Outside, the tuckpointing is being finished, the roof is almost done, and the siding is going on the new building.  Here's a quick group of pictures to bring you up to date.   Hopefully, we'll be able to continue to capture inside pictures that give you an idea of progress.  Those are the hardest ones to take without a good wide angle lens.

Monday October 01 2007 -

I thought it was time to give you a little update of an important part of the new brew pub, the bar!   It is being painstaking hand crafted out of the best woods and will be finished baby smooth ready for a comfortable arm resting experience.   Here are a few shots of the beginning of it's construction, along with one shot of careful measuring going on in the building where the bar will eventually be installed.

Friday September 28 2007 -

The rafters are up and on, and much of the cement work is now down around the outside of the building. Tuck-pointing continues on the old building, and they have begun with the sealant on the interior beams in the old building. Lots happening, and some pictures to share.

Thursday September 27 2007 -

I'm behind again, so I won't bore you with words except to say that I saw the trusses stacked, so I know the roof of the new structure will go on soon. Here are the pictures.

Friday September 21 2007 -

Lots of activity yesterday, and more rapid fire changes coming this next week. The floors were poured both inside and out yesterday, with the upstairs slated to be poured today. The outside walls for the new structure are already built and ready to be put in place. The hope now is to get the new structure enclosed by the end of next week. That's going to be a flying pace, but it's possible. Click here to catch up on the progress with pictures.

Sunday September 16 2007 -

Progress on all fronts. Pictures of the new building outside (ready for the floor pour), the old building upstairs (ready for the floor leveling pour) and the progress on the main floor of the old building. Pictures say it best. Click here to see the progress.

Thursday September 13 2007 -

Not much new to say, but I have several thousand words in the form of pictures to continue sharing (1 picture = 1000 words). The changes continue to happen. Progress is steady. These shots are from 9/12/2007.

Wednesday September 12 2007 -

An abundance of pictures to share that range from the end of August to September 11th. Water & Sewer connections are being made. Inside, the brick walls and ceilings have been sandblasted clean and prep work has begun on the non-brick walls. Old support walls are removed and new support beams are in place. Tuckpointing is continuing on the front of the building. The easiest way to see the progress is to take a look at the pictures and see how the project is coming along.

Friday September 07 2007 -

I'm a little behind with pictures. Things are happening at a faster pace now. The walls are poured, the floor is scheduled to be poured on Sept 17th. There is a lot of work to happen between then and now. I did stop by and take a few pictures to keep you up to date on the progress. Here are some shots from 9/5 and from 9/6. Notice the new logo displayed on the job site!

Thursday August 30 2007 -

The rain has finally quit, but there is a lot of drying up to do. The pace of construction and remodeling is picking up however, and we should see more rapid changes over the coming weeks. Lots of new cement and support work happening. Pictures tell it best so I'll just let you look at the progress.

Tuesday August 28 2007 -

The rain continues to plague us, but the work continues.  Footings continue to be poured, and walls are just about ready to come up.   Inside, walls are coming down as we prepare to level the floors.   Here's a short pictoral update of the past couple of days.

Friday August 24 2007 -

Things have been happening at a rapid pace on the construction. Sidewalk and old fence are removed in preparation for the new construction that will house the brewery. The work has been done on the ground to get it ready for the foundation, and the forms are beginning to be set. The ground is being prepared for the small parking area behind the building.

Meanwhile, inside, the safe and fireplaces are gone. We await the beams that will allow us to remove the remaining interior walls and then work will go into reinforcing other beams and leveling floors. They would be moving faster, but it appears that some structural engineers compete in Iron Man events. He'll be back next week, and things will continue apace inside as well. Here's a look at the changes in pictures.

Wednesday August 15 2007 -

The main construction crew is here and beginning their work.  The first couple of weeks are going to be slow going, mainly because there is a lot of preparation to happen yet.    The project was slowed slightly because of the 8+ inches of rain we recieved.  It did eventually dry up, and work continued

The other item that will slow us a bit is the need to removed the old safe.   Thanks to Stacy for the pictures.

Tuesday August 07 2007 -

I thought it was time to provide at least an update of the floor plans. The demolition phase is nearing completion and the construction phase is about to begin!

Floor Plans

Saturday May 26 2007 -

We hope to be able to provide a better ongoing update to the construction phase of the Old Man River Brewery. Stay tuned as construction begins and we transform this structure into a beautiful, yet historic brew pub.  Here are some pictures from this weekend.
